*(1): The WWWF broke from the NWA over a dispute over whether Lou Thesz or Buddy Rogers was the champion. Rogers was awarded the title after the break. This "tournament final" with Rocca was completely ficticious.

*(2): Inoki's win was not recognized in the U.S. until recently.

*(3): Valentine was awarded the title by a dazed ref after Backlund pinned him in a match, which was a mistake. Backlund beat him in a rematch.

*(4): Andre was stripped of the belt for trying to sell it to Ted DiBiase, and this was the tournament final.

*(5): Hogan was stripped of the title, and it was put up for grabs in the Royal Rumble.

*(6): Shawn had to forfeit the title due to a knee injury, and it was put up for grabs in a Final Four elimination match.

*(7): The belt was held up after Kane and The Undertaker pinned Austin simultaneusly in a Triple Threat Match. The Rock won a 14-man tournament for the title.

*(8): This was a Triple Threat Match.

*(9): Vince relinquished the belt because he couldn't be involved in WWF affairs, and it was put up for grabs in a 6 Pack Challenge.

*(10): This was a Triple Threat Match.

*(11): This was a six man tag where if anyone on Triple H's side was pinned, the man who did so would win the title.

*(4): Bob Holly seemed to win the belt, but it was revealed that Jarrett got his foot over the bottom rope before the three count. Instead of giving Jarrett back the belt, they ordered a rematch later on, which Jarrett won.

*(5): Shawn had to give up the belt due to injuries and forfeit it to his opponent, Dean Douglas.

*(7): Ahmed was injured, and this was the tourney final.
